as the first word in the name. Shown as "The" - should read "the".

Freight Tariff #6, dated June 19, 1871, showing stations from North Topeka to Newton.

Page 59. 4th PARAGRAPH: - Says 26 miles laid. In 1869 Annual Report gives 28
miles. - In 1870 Annual report gives 34 miles - In 1871 Annual Report gives 75 miles to Newton, Kansas.

The Land grant given by Congress required the completion of the road to
west line of Kansas by March 3, 1873.

On March 22, 1872, Directors voted to complete. Trains run over line
from Missouri River into Colorado of December 28, 1872, Newton to west line of Kansas - 284.35 miles and Newton to Wichita - 27.5 Miles, thus saving the land grant.

These dates do not quite agree with the list showing track laid as shown in
Volume 1 of this record.

Page 63. 1st PARAGRAPH: - Reference is made to highway bridge. During the
construction, General Foreman of Bridges, J. E. Lehey, fell from bridge on the ice. Afterwards insane from the fall.

2nd PARAGRAPH: - At the World's Fair in Chicago, 1893, the highest
award was given for wheat raised near Spencer along the AT&SF Right- of-way.

At Lecompton it first State House used in Kansas. The building is still
standing. During change of line while excavating bluff there was uncovered the remains of soldiers and members of Quantrill's band who made a historical raid on Lawrence and Lecompton.

5th PARAGRAPH: - Division Engineer. E. W. Olds was bald - did not have a hair on his head. Entered a barber shop in Topeka with him. After being comfortably seated, barber said, "Shave" Olds answered, "No, haircut, please?"
