Selections From Meade's Manual

Bridge #5-A

On December 9, 1904, this bridge was being driven, had driven the east dump bent, capped it. The bank was not filled out so bridgemen filled out to the dump boards with shovels. They laid the rail and started to run the driver out to drive Bent 2, when the bank gave way and turned the driver over. This was caused by the dirt being like powder, very dry and crumbly and driver being worked on extension made the load on the front wheels very heavy.

Bridge #4-A

Was partly burned down, presumably by striking miners, on November 23, 1912, some time during the night. Was discovered on fire at 5:00 A.M. by Colorado Fuel & Iron Company Watchman at Coal Creek Mine. It burned 112-ft - all of the east approach, there being 56-ft. girder on frame pier over the channel. When the east pier burned, that end of the girder fell in and stood on end in the arroyo, which stopped the fire from proceeding further.

Radiant was changed to Pyrolite
