Selections From Meade's Manual

The Colorado Midland Railway Company - Turned over to Operating Department.

The track was turned over to the Operating Department, From Colorado Springs to Granite Gate, M.P. 119.3, August 22nd, 1887 and the Operating Department began running trains September 1st, 1887.

THe road was opened from Granite Gate to Glenwood, M.P. 214.6 December 1st, 1887 and trains began running into Aspen on February 5th, 1888.

The Coal Branch was opened for business in January 1888.

The New Castle extension was completed and the road opened to New Castle on October 17th, 1888.

The Rio Grande Junction road was completed and opened for business to Grand Junction on Nov. 16, 1890.

WOrk was begun on Busk Tunnel, July 15th, 1890. The tunnel was completed November 10, 1893

The first train passed through December 10th, 1893 (work) train. The first regular train (#5) passed through December 13th, 1893.

H. U. Mudge was, on April 1st, 1893, made General Superintendent, Western Lines, including the Colorado Midland headquarters, Colorado Springs.

June 1st, 1894, Mr. Mudge was made General Superintendent, Eastern Lines, headquarters, Topeka, Vice H.R. Nickerson, resigned to go to the Mexican Central as General Manager.

Mr. Dyer succeeded Mr. Mudge, June 1st, 1894, as General Superintendent, Western Lines, headquarters Colorado Springs.

Office of General Superintendent, Western Lines, abolished February 1st, 1896. Mr. Dyer going back to Pueble as Superintendent. T.H. Sears, the Superintendent, going back to La Junta as Train Master.

Mr. Dyer resigned February 1st, 1900 to accept service with the Colorado & Southern as General Superintendent, succeeded at Pueblo by R. J. Parker, as Superintendent, February 1st, 1900.
