
The Hilton Hill change of line was built during the year 1907,1908 and 1909. Dolman and Son, Topeka, Kansas, were the grading contractors. The embankment was made with 10' crown, material borrowed at site of work. The embankments were finished with dirt hauled from La Junta yard (East) Dirt being loaded at La Junta by steam shovel.
The masonry work was built in 1908 by the Phillips Construction Company and O'Gara of Denver, Colorado. Track was ballasted from Nepesta, 12" of gravel placed underneath tie. Change of line extends from M.P. 525 plus 532' to M.P. 530 plus 5172' and is built on a .4% grade west bound maximum. The old grade at this point was .64% maximum. Mr. T.A. The grading began September 1st, 1907 and was completed November 19th, 1907.
Masonry work was begun November 1st, 1907 and completed June 16th, 1908.
Change of line was put in operation February 12th, 1909.
