The Eastern Archives holds a system set of side track records covering all of the four regions of the Santa Fe as organized in the early 1960's. These records list side tracks owned operated or maintained by the Santa Fe Railroad with details of track out, location, type of switch stand, type of switch, type of frog, length of track, weight of rail, number of tie plates, type of joints, when built, and remarks.
The records vary in historical completeness by region and time due to varying methods of updating the record. At times when facilities were retired the pages involved were removed from the record and lost to history. At other times they were simply marked as retired and left as part of the record.
We intend to put up on the web site at this locations examples of these records Depending on interest we may expand this to include records from other regions.
