General condition of grading work.

SANTA RE ROUTE

E O Ry Contracts.

Guthrie, Okla, Oct. 14th, 1899.

Mr. James Dun
Chief Engr
Topeka

Dear Sir:

Replying to yours of the 10th, as to work for contractors, and general condition of
the work is as follows:

Moore has his work all roughed in and with the exception of two small pieces of
rock work and finishing up work will be practically finished some time between the 25th and the end of the month. Most of his earth force will be idle then.

The Shutt people have done the greater part of their earth work and will have two
25 team outfits ready to move by the 28th. They have been having trouble in getting rock men and their rock will not be out on time at the present rate.

Sparr & Stubbs had rather light work but well suited to the outfit they have here.
They have enough to keep them busy till the end of the month. I have seen neither of them ou the work here.

Ware & Maney have had so short a time since we gave them a chance to start that
they have not made very much of a showing on the rock work. They have covered their earth work and have two outfits of subs to spare.

As to letting more work ö Ware and Maney now have teams on the ground enough
to handle miles 25 and 26 by the time their rock work can be done and it would seem desirable to let them do these two miles. If you approve please advise me by wire so I can start the team at once.

Mr. Moore should be in shape to handle miles 27, 28, 29 and 30, which are ¸ light
and ¸ heavy work.

Then come three light miles which might be given to Sparr & Stubbs.

Then say miles 34-35-26 and 37 to Shutt with a reservation that a couple more be
added if they finish up in time. Keeping these outfits jumping over one another in distances of from 3 to 6 miles for any further work you might have in view. The above are simply suggestions made at your request.

Yours truly,
(Sgd) H. C. Phillips
Res. Engr.
