Guthrie, Okla, Nov. 18, 1899.
Mr D. Purdon, Asst Chief Engineer
Topeka, Kansas.
Dear Sir:
Replying to yours of November 17,th as to Excursion train to Campbell: Of
course Mr. Coyle is very anxious for this train to run, and to that end will probably go to
Topeka to take the matter up personally. It would seem advisable that if the train is to be
run, for it to be postponed a week, and if it is not to be run for some time, for him to
know it now. I think best, therefore, to give you the exact conditions here, and also what
progress we can make, if the weather does not interfere.
Date.
November 19th - Driving bridge 10. (Sunday will work driver)
20th - Track laying to bridge 11.
21st - Driving bridge 11.
22nd- ã ã 11.
23d - Laying track (if bridge 14 & 15 are cribbed).
24th - Track Laying to 520
24th - Driving bridge # 13
25th - Tracklaying to 520.
26th - Tracklaying to 550 (Sunday).
From this point, a drive of about two miles could be made to Campbell. Track surface to Station 178. The reason we are not in better shape, is in part that we were, as you know, expecting that the KOC&SW track gang was coming over, and that we were only to put in a small organization. As Mr. Dolan wires me that they will not leave the KOC until December 1st, we have arranged to put on a surfacing gang on Monday.
Yours truly,
(Sgd) H C Phillips
Resident Engineer.
