Newton Dispatcher May 22, 1973

We have digitized as Mp2 files about an hour from about 6:00PM to 7:00 PM, May 22, 1973 of the Newton Dispatcher working his job. The dispatcher in addition to his normal routine was breaking in a new train order operator at Sand Creek. The original recording was made with a cassette recorder simply placed on the dispatcher desk. The resulting recording for some years was used by the Santa Fe to train new train order operators at Topeka and came to my attention at an NRHS meeting.

The recording has been converted to MP2 and broken up into segments of conversation of a size we hope you will find convent to down load. The original recording was not anything close to high fidelity and the train order phone line and CTC machine add more noise to the recording. We hope you will understand and consider the back ground noise as added character. The type of href call we are using here will launch your MPEG player plugin. If you do not already have a MPEG plug in they are widly available on the web. For windows user Microsoft has a free Window Media Player that will play back a wide array of soundfile types, including MPEG. I am not familiar with apple computers and will have to research were their plug ins are available. To hear the files you will need a MPEG plug in or other MPEG player program.
