RAILROAD OFFICIALS CONSIDER UNION
STATION PLANS OF K. C. K., CLUB

Drawing showing suggested routes of railroads entering proposed Kansas City, Kas, Union Station

Officials of several railroads entering Kansas City, Kansas., are in Chicago discussing a proposed plan of entering Kansas City, Kas., over the right-of-way of the Kansas City, Mexico & Orient, with the purpose of building a union passenger station where all roads will have adequate access, and a clear right-of-way.

The plan, as proposed, provides that the Union Pacific, Rock Island and Santa Fe shall run their trains over the Orient from the junction of the Orient and Union Pacific roads west of Kansas City, Kas. It is understood the Santa Fe will bridge the Kaw river several miles west of Kansas City, Kansas. In order to connect with the Orient.

With the roads coming in over the Orient to a point in the north central part of Kansas City, Kansas., it would be possible to build a station anywhere along the bluffs from Jersey creek to Central avenue and give each road an equal chance.

Delay Would be Slight.

Passenger trains from the west could get into the proposed location with a delay of ten minutes which it would take to make the loop proposed in the plan. The yards of the Union Pacific and Rock Island could be used for freight terminals and in no way hinder the incoming trains from entering the station.

The right to cross the Missouri river at a point east of Kansas City, Kansas. Is held by the Orient company. Over a bridge, as proposed there, the Burlington and roads, entering Harlem, could get into the depot with little delay, from the present routes to the new station in Kansas City.

Several conferences have been held among the city officials of Kansas City, Kansas., in regard to giving the Kansas City Terminal Railway company a right to build a high line from Kansas City, Kas. To the station in Kansas City, Mo. This was held up until disposition was made of the union station plan.

Club Favors Plan

It is believed by the Union Station of Kansas City, Kans., the proposed plan of using the Orient road is the most feasible. Their contention is that the roads coming into Harlem could cross the Missouri river at the point where the Orient holds the right and have as good, if not better, route to the new union station in Kansas City, Missouri., than they now have.

The site suggested in the plans for the new station is at the foot of Nebraska, State and Washington avenues.

The Orient road , with in the limits of Kansas City, Kansass. Is known as the Kansas City, Outer Belt & Electric Railway company.

The grading is almost completed on this line and several concrete bridges are in. It is estimated the Union Pacific and Rock Island roads could make necessary changes at an expense less than $20,000. The Rock Island now comes into Kansas City, Kansas. From Topeka over the tracks of the Union Pacific.
