The orginal depot stood on the West side of the Main Line in Washington Street, between Fourth and Fifth Streets. It was a wooden building, used for Passenger and Freight and afterwards enlarged and changed many times for a general office, being the second one. The present brick depot was built in 1880-1881, by contractor J. A. Boyle, of Topeka, by force account.
