
Original charter to Ottawa, Osage City and Council Grove Railroad. Incorporated in Kansas, August 16, 1883. Consolidated May 31st, 1886, into the C.K. & W. RR. Co. Started by some promoters and afterward bought and finished by the Santa Fe. Sold to the Santa Fe, April 10, 1901.
L. L. Coppidge was the Chief Engineer and Locating Engineer. Also Engineer of Construction He was killed with Jessie Evans, County Surveyor, June 9th, 1886 on a Santa Fe work train near Osage City. When backing up, they ran into a bunch of cattle and were derailed. Johnie Higgins, (now deceased) Engineer. Telegraph line built in 1886. The line was built and opened in 1886. First time card August 1st, 1886. Price & McGenock were the Contractors.
Grading began in the Spring of 1886. Completed in the summer of 1886. Track laying followed the grading as finished.
First passenger train August 1st, 1886.
