Arkansas River Division

Second District Syracuse to La Junta 101.00 Miles

Syracuse to Colorado State Line, same incorporation, etc as previously noted for the Santa Fe in Kansas. The Colorado State Line to La Junta, built under a charter issued in Colorado to the Pueblo & Arkansas Valley Railroad Company, March 24, 1875. Sold January 19, 1900 to the Santa Fe.

Grading was started in the Spring of 1872, by the Colorado & New Mexico Railroad Company. The Contractors were the same as noted, Dodge City to Syracuse, viz: Wiley & Cutler of Lawrence, Kansas. James Preston of Atchison, Kansas. Cunning & McIntosh and D. Coleman, were the main contractors, together with a lot of small subs, made up the list.

Track reached the State Line, December 23rd, 1872. State Line to Granada, July 4th, 1873. Granada to Las Animas, September 13th, 1875. Las Animas to La Junta, February 16th, 1876.

A.A. Robinson, Chief Engineer. C.F. Morse, General Superintendent. A.A. Egbert, Division Superintendent. The Locating Engineers were J.D. Burr, White Pigeon, Michigan. Geo. B. Lake, Howell, Mich. Together with C.B. Coons, Auburn, N.Y. C.E. Poor, J.T. Crank, A.C. Swarts and T.W. Sterritt, Assistant Engineers on Construction. Dick Coleman, Track Engineer.
