Parties for surveys in Oklahoma.
Topeka, July 28, 1899.
Major H. L. Marvin,
Locating Engineer,
Guthrie, O. T.
Dear Sir:-
The following arrangements have been made for your
parties:
Mr. H. T. Richards will meet you in Guthrie on
Arrival of train 407 Monday the 31st, unless he wires you
to the contrary meanwhile. He says he prefers, if possible,
to obtain the services of a man named Miller, now with Mr.
Dalton's party, as transitman, and as Hanna has declined to
run the transit, I have arranged to send out on train 7 of
the 31st, reaching Guthrie at 1:12 P. M. August 1st, the Fol
lowing men:
I. B. Sears, Levelman,
J. N. Macomb, Rod,
Eugene L. Smith, Chainman,
F. J. Buck, Chainman,
A. B. Scanlon, Axeman,
F. G. Brewer, Axeman,
G. C. Nicoll, Chainman or axeman as most fit,
George Burns, Cook.
The topographer for Mr. Richards' party, Frank S. Wilhelm,
has not yet been heard from.
I will also send Garrett Sealy, (who is competent
to run level and probably to take topography,) by the same
train.
This will give Mr. Richards two instrument men
until Miller should be heard from.
I note that you have arranged for teams, and can
buy provisions at Guthrie.
I have furnished to Mr. Richards $200, and as the
Treasurer requests that all these survey accounts be con
ducted through you, now advise you of that fact.
I also arranged to have Mr. O. C. Thomplson sent
$150 as request by your letter. The Treasurer will, in
all cases, when he sends out money on our requests, furnish
you a carbon copy of the letter of transmission, and thus
enable you to keep track of advances made.
