Guthrie, Oklahoma, Jan. 3, 1900.
Mr. James Dun, Chief Engineer
Topeka, Kansas.
Dear Sir:
On the first inst. As outlined to you, a passenger coach was carried from Guthrie to Perkins and returned. Guthrie was left at 8 oâclock and Perkins about 10:45. The exercises were held in Perkins. The invited guests returned leaving Perkins at 1:30. I authorized the agent at Guthrie (Mr. Corkins,) to sell regular tickets for that morning, and some thirteen or fourteen paid passengers were carried. During the night previous the piledriver went off the track just east of Iowa City, owing to the spreading of rails that were not over spiked, after working sometime and trying to get it on, a shoofly track was built around it, adding thus in delay to the first passenger train, I have put all the men available into back spiking in order to avoid any repetition of this trouble. The piledriver was put on the rails during the day and was not materially damaged.
I enclose a copy of the order under which our trains are at present working. The telegraph line will be started at once, as I propose distributing poles tomorrow.
Yours truly,
(Sgd) H. C. Phillips
Resident Engineer.
Encl-a.
