R E P O R T E.O.RY.
Track: Is now at Station four, or not quite one mile beyond Stillwater.
The house and passing tracks have been laid at Stillwater and daily train service will be
started upon April 1st. The surfacing is not completed between the Cimarron river and
Stillwater, but the grade is fairly satisfactory and the track is not in bad shape. Track will
be pushed as fast as possible hereafter in order to reach Pawnee within our contract time.
Bridges: We have to-day started driving the piers for the Cimarron river
bridge, using for the purpose an extension to the leads of the pile driver and working from
the deck so as to avoid necessity for cribbing on the level of the river; also to enable us to
drive 30â piles under the present track, which we would not be permitted to do with the
pile driver on the low level, because of interference with stringers. The bridges are
practically compete to Ripley, and are being driven and finished between Ripley and
Stillwater as rapidly as possible.
Buildings: The stations at Campbell, Iowa City and Perkins are complete with
exception of a little varnishing on the interior of Perkins depot; and the station at Ripley
is enclosed and roofed. Stock yards are complete at Campbell and Iowa City, and
temporary yards are in place at Goodnight, Mehan and Ripley. At the last named point a
permanent No. 6 stock yards has been started. Bunk houses are in place and in use at
Russell and Iowa City. That at Perkins requires only the paint to finish it. Section houses
are complete at Russell and Perkins. A bunk house has been placed for a temporary depot
at Stillwater. The well at Iowa City for engine use is complete except the roof. The
foundation for pump house at the same point is nearly completed. Materials for tank are
on the ground and as soon as ballast is received tank will be erected. Temporary tank still
in use at Iowa City. Pump station for engine use has been established at Little Stillwater
creek near Mehan, but no tank erected.
Grading on Indian lands near Pawnee is progressing well and is practically
finished on all work up to these lands.
