Eastern Oklahoma Ry. Office of Resident Engineer. May 18, 1900 Guthrie, OklahomaMr. James Dun,
Dear Sir:--
TRACK laid to station 1765 on the evening of the 18th.
GRADING complete into Pawnee.
BRIDGING complete to Stillwater, except girder and span work. Between Stillwater and Glencoe, piles driven and capped, but not yet all framed. Beyond Glencoe, driving piles. All piers driven for the Cimarron river bridge, and bottom chord of first span laid and traveler erected. Driving piers for upper Stillwater crossing. A number of I beams and Plate girders are on hand waiting distribution.
WATER SERVICE Temporary stations at Iowa City, Mehan and Stillwater. Engine and pump set up complete at Iowa City for permanent installation. First joint of tank complete and concrete placed in same. Riveters starting work to complete tank with float. Pump house complete, and well roofed over. At Ripley, well down 24 feet and not acting well, owing to poor cement and to quicksands caving in around outside. Tank foundation complete and bottom of tank and first joint riveted up. The reservoir site - leases for the same were obtained yesterday, and we can begin work at once.
BUILDINGS depot at Stillwater ö painting almost done and the same is in use. Section and bunk houses at Stillwater almost done. Depot at Glencoe framed and partially enclosed.
TELEGRAPH is into Rambo, being out into the front train at that point.
FENCING is into Yost.
GENERAL The very severe rains of the past week put us back about two days, and caused a good deal of the track to get rather soft, and caused several minor slides in the cut North of Stillwater. There was no point on the track out enough to interfere with the passage of trains. One side track (Goodnight) had a slight wash out in it, which was repaired by ten oâclock the morning after the rain. High water has occurred in the Cimarron river to the extent of a foot or so twice during the week, but has done no serious damage I was advised of a thirty-eight inch rise in the river yesterday at Waynoka, which we will probably get during the day. Business at Campbell is very light indeed; Iowa City fair; Perkins fair; Ripley decreasing; Stillwater good; Glencoe very good. Mixed train now runs to Glencoe daily except Sunday, but passenger business is light.
Yours truly,
H.C. Phillips,
Resident Engineer.
